Uptown Architecture Tour

See event photos »

Join PBKACA member and Chicago Architecture Foundation docent Robin Simon for the 4th annual PBKACA architecture tour. This time we will be exploring Uptown — Chicago’s most diverse neighborhood.

After commuter train routes were extended north to Wilson Avenue in 1900, this area exploded with development. From the roaring 20’s and Prohibition to the present, something interesting is always happening in Uptown! See a treasure trove of terra cotta ornament, learn about the adaptive re-use of buildings and hear about past and present uses of the entertainment palaces such as the Riviera Theatre, Green Mill, Aragon Ballroom and Uptown Theatre.

Tour limited to 15 participants, up to 1 guest per PBKACA member.

Date and Time:Sunday, July 21 from 10:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Optional lunch afterwards (dutch treat).
Location:Meet in front of Truman College, 1145 W. Wilson (Wilson Red Line stop, 1 block west of Broadway & Wilson stop #36 bus or 3 blocks west of Sheridan & Wilson stop #151 bus)
RSVP:Robin at robinsimonsez@earthlink.net with your name, number of guests, and your cell phone number. (We did need to call people due to rain in 2011!)
